Shibata, Japan

I spent the last several days in Niigata Prefecture, on the West coast of Japan, five hours away from Tokyo by car.  It was my first time outside of the Tokyo Metropolitan region; it was wonderful visiting Chiho’s hometown and meeting her family.  There were jagged mountains, enormous clouds, magnificent temples, green rice fields for miles, and a pureness in the air that felt serene.  See additional photos below.
