About

jason welch is,

among other things, a photographer, community advocate, coffee drinker, music listener, and city dweller.
his pursuit of photography began a few years ago when he moved to new york city, a place that is close to his heart.
in the fall of 2008, jason embarked on a photo documentary of manhattan’s chinatown.  ongoing and evolving, chinatown has
become his most
passionate and defining work.  while shooting in manhattan, he decided to branch out and explore new york’s other chinatowns: flushing queens and the sunset park area of brooklyn.
jason is relentlessly curious about the hundreds of ethnicities that coexist in new york, and chinatown explores the history and
investigates the future of a growing, bustling chinatown.
so what brings him to japan, to tokyo? first and foremost, the girl he loves. certainly, a new challenge and place to explore. friendships to create and stories to tell. finally, the search for all things interesting.
jason hopes to one day settle down with his gal in brooklyn.  but for now, he’s very excited about tokyo and living in japan.
